Did you know the average person spends around 5.4 hours a day on their phone? Everywhere you look, you’re bound to see someone preoccupied with their phone. Whether it’s the latest feed from a social media platform or browsing the web, phones have become an integral part of our everyday lives.

Did you know that there are currently over 3 billion people using social networks across the globe? Not only does social media enable consumers to engage with each other, but they also allow consumers to connect with businesses and brands. Another fun fact: About 80 percent of Instagram users follow at least one business.

“Social marketing eliminates the middlemen, providing brands the unique opportunity to have a direct relationship with their customers.”

Bryan Weiner

When it comes to operating your business, there are many facets that you have to take into consideration. The quality of product, the level of customer service, customer engagement, effective marketing, the list goes on and on. Now as a business owner in the modern day, there is 1 more key thing you need to worry about and that’s your social media presence. Having a strong social media presence can enhance your business and allow you to freely engage with your customers like never before.

My mother currently owns and operates 2 successful nail salons in the tri-state area. However, one thing my mother’s business was lacking a few years ago in my perspective was the absence of a social media presence. Utilizing social media to promote and engage her customers is now part of her daily marketing strategy.

Many small businesses have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic due to obvious reasons. My mother had to close her stores for 4 months before reopening just a few weeks ago. During this time, there was no channel for my mother to engage with her customers face to face and the use of  social media has helped her stay connected with her customers. Social media was used to inform her customers of the new safety rules and regulations to ensure the safety of her customers. Without the use of social media as a platform to inform her customers, my mothers’ store reopenings may not have been as successful or smooth.
